Practice and Purpose
Painting is at the centre of my practice, through which I translate intellectual and emotional reflections of life into visual form. Guided by the principle of creating with love, I make work that provokes thought, engages the senses, and invites an intimate, active dialogue with the viewer.
Themes and Influences
My work often begins with critical life events and their transformative emotional weight. Family relationships provide a particularly important source of inquiry: Embrace explores reconciliation between mother and daughter, while Departing Soul confronts the profound grief of loss.
These personal experiences intersect with broader influences from literature and music. The epic narratives of Dante’s Divine Comedy and Milton’s Paradise Lost inform my conceptual approach. Philip Glass’s Metamorphosis and Alfred Schnittke’s Declaration of Love contribute rhythmic and emotional undercurrents. Together, these influences help me examine change, connection, grief, and renewal.
Visual Language and Materials
I use visual language to give form to ideas and perceptions that are difficult to articulate. Bright, luminous colours and expressive forms evolve into abstract compositions that convey the emotional intensity of my subjects.
My material practice is fluid and responsive. I work with wet media—including oil, acrylic, and watercolour—as well as the expressive directness of charcoal, pastel, and ink. The scale and surface may range from intimate works on paper to large canvases and wood panels. In each case, the concept determines the medium.
Studio Process
My studio process is iterative and exploratory. Each work develops through cycles of sketching, painting, and critical reassessment. I continue until the piece moves beyond my original intention and assumes a vibrant life of its own.
